چکیده

The current study describes the extracellular hydrolytic activities of halophilic bacteria isolated from subterranean rock salt. The estimated number of grown colonies was approximately 3000 per gram of a rock salt on the surface of the medium MH containing 10% NaCl. The investigated strains, randomly selected from the colonies observed on the plate, showed at least one of the tested extracellular hydrolytic activities and one strain hydrolized six out of seven tested substrates. Our investigations showed that hydrolytic activities for Tween 80 and casein are predominant among the isolated strains although the NaCl concentration varies up to 2M. The presence of combined hydrolytic activities in some isolated strains could be an advantage to use in some biotechnological applications in various fields of industry or agriculture. To the author’s knowledge, this is the first study on the extracellular hydrolytic properties of halophilic microorganisms isolated from subterranean salt crystals at 206m.

Evaluation and Isolation of Halophilic Bacteria from the Meyghan Lake in Arak, Iran

ABSTRACT            Background and Objectives: Halophilic bacteria can grow and survive in environments with a wide range a wide range of salinities. In this study, we aimed to isolate halophilic bacteria from the Meyghan Lake in Arak (Iran) and evaluate their enzymatic activity.            Methods: Samples were taken from four different areas of the lake. Halophilic bacteria were isolated by...

Extracellular proteases of Halobacillus blutaparonensis strain M9, a new moderately halophilic bacterium

Halophilic microorganisms are source of potential hydrolytic enzymes to be used in industrial and/or biotechnological processes. In the present study, we have investigated the ability of the moderately halophilic bacterium Halobacillus blutaparonensis (strain M9), a novel species described by our group, to release proteolytic enzymes. This bacterial strain abundantly proliferated in Luria-Berta...

The isolation of halophilic urease-producing bacteria and the study of their nano-crystal production

Urease-producing bacteria can precipitate calcite nano-crystals by producing urease in the presence of urea and calcium. Calcite precipitation resulting from microbial activity is a process which causes cementation of soil particles in nature. The purpose of this study was to isolate urease-producing halophilic bacteria in order to precipitate calcite in saline soil. Natural samples, including ...

Screening and Isolation of Extracellular Protease Producing Bacteria from the Maharloo Salt Lake

Screening and identification of moderately halophilic protease producing bacteria from different regions of Maharloo, a hypersaline lake in the southern area of Iran, were the objectives of this study. In the preliminary screening, 16 isolates exhibited proteolytic activity on saline skim milk agar. All isolates were able to grow comfortably in the media containing 7-15% of salt. Protease...

Enzymatic diversity in the haloactinomycetes isolated from rhizosphere of the plants in saline soils at the periphery of Dasht-e-Kavir desert

Saline rhizospheric areas are untouched environments for isolating actinomycetes with the potential of valuable salt tolerant enzyme production. In this study, we isolated and evaluated a total number of of 26 actinomycete strains from plant rhizosphere of the periphery of Dasht-e-Kavir desert. Isolated actinomycetes produced different enzymes. Among them 50, 46, 39, 27, 10 and 7 % of the isola...
